The Preparation and the Survey

Planning began in mid-December for "Homeless in the Heartland," and that was followed by a great deal of research.

First, a production meeting was held with Mehleena Edmonds, a former HTVer who is graduating college this spring with a degree in Social Work.  That provided plenty of insight about how staffers should conduct themselves around the young people they would be interacting with during production.  That meeting also led to a number of ideas for directions the final show might take, depending on the sources and characters we would be meeting in the weeks ahead.

The "backbone" of this show was actually a survey.  It is called "Connecting the Dots," and it was a crucial piece of the puzzle for
the HTV team.  One of the key sources on the show, Todd Duncan, was the person who oversaw the survey, which has been conducted three times in the last six years.  It has certainly helped clarify many of the issues confronting the community when it comes to youth on the streets here in Springfield.

We are happy to share that report with you in the link below.  It is comprehensive, and because it has been done three times, it is an invaluable resource for our community.
